Railsider has resumed its operations between Portbou and Barcelona, bringing an end to the rail disruption experienced in recent days at the border.
Due to the closure of the Rubí railway tunnel, managed by Adif, around 23,000 tonnes of goods had been immobilised in the town of Portbou since 20 January. This situation led to delivery delays, supply chain disruptions and logistical adjustments, such as switching to road transport or requesting freight trains to be rerouted via Sants station.
Despite the blockage and the logistical difficulties affecting the Mediterranean Corridor, the strategic location of Railsider’s Portbou facility, together with its role as a buffer warehouse, enabled the company to continue receiving trains and storing goods on site. It also allowed Railsider to handle urgent and priority shipments to various destinations thanks to the site’s road connections.
In addition, special services and additional rail rotations were organised over the weekend, reducing the negative impact of this particularly challenging situation and allowing Railsider to guarantee both shipment continuity and value-added services to its customers.
