With the addition of an extra bridge crane to its facilities in Irún, RAILSIDER ATLÁNTICO S.A. takes another step forward in its specialisation in end-to-end logistics for long-length rails. This infrastructure is specifically designed to meet the needs of welding stations and high-speed lines, optimising the transport and handling of this essential material for the railway network.
Since its foundation, RAILSIDER ATLÁNTICO S.A. has managed the import of rails up to 120 metres in length from renowned European manufacturers such as Voestalpine (Austria), Thyssen (Germany) and Corus (France), now Saarstahl Rail. It also regularly works with rails from ARCELORMITTAL Asturias for export to countries including Italy, France, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. More recently, it has begun to import 108-metre rails from Italy, which pass through the Irún facilities where they are processed and prepared for optimised unloading for Portuguese clients.
Thanks to the use of three synchronised bridge cranes, the company facilitates the transfer of rails between trains operating on Iberian gauge and UIC international gauge, and vice versa. A clear example of this process is the recent handling of rails from JSW Steel (Italy), destined for the Portuguese railway network, transported using MEDWAY wagons specifically equipped for this purpose.
In addition, this strategic investment enables the covered storage of rails up to 120 metres in length, in a prime border location, benefitting both the French and Iberian markets.
Thanks to this improvement, RAILSIDER ATLÁNTICO S.A. reinforces its commitment to innovation and efficiency in rail transport, consolidating its position as a leader in long-length rail logistics in Europe.
